Botanical Brunette

The Botanical Brunette

Hi! My name is Amanda, but you can call me the Botanical Brunette.

Botanical Brunette

I was born a New England girl, but now I’m living the sub-tropic life in Florida. I’m a huge nerd for plants and all plant things. Well… I’m kind of a nerd in general, but I love plants the most!

I have a slight obsession with my cat Roo, who you’ll surely find makes plenty of appearances in my posts (he loves the attention).

As a retired hairstylist, I’ve always loved being creative and Botanical Brunette is an exciting, new medium to share that creativity through.

I’ve always had an “Oh, I can make that!” mindset.

Pinterest DIY’s are my jam. I’ve had my fair share of Pinterest Fails along the way, but that’s the fun of it! Every project is a chance to grow and learn something new!

The Inspiration for Botanical Brunette

You might be wondering, “How did a hairstylist become a plant connoisseur?”

Well, it all started a few years back. After, buying our first house with (my now) husband, I was browsing the aisles of a home improvement store, looking around at all the bells and whistles I could add to my new home.

I stumbled across a snake plant.

Snake Plant

Examining its long and skinny leaves, I imagined I felt how ants feel when they see blades of grass. I felt compelled to buy it, but the urge was conflicting with what I knew about my past…

I’VE KILLED EVERY PLANT I’VE BOUGHT!

I must have looked odd just standing there at the end cap of the aisle, just staring at this plant, knowing that I will ultimately see it’s demise if my past was any sign of my future.

Then, I noticed it had a care tag on it:

Hardy-plant. Beginner level. Low light and drought resistant.

Yeah, ok.” I laughed.

Living Up to the Challenge

I bought it anyway and I’m proud to say that after all these years, I haven’t killed it yet! In fact, I have a few offspring from it that I’ve since propagated and replanted into brand new plants.

Who knew that plants would be the real home improvement I needed?

I was all-in from then on. I kept adding and adding new plants to my collection until you practically need a machete to get to my living room.

I’ve had my ups and downs with plants, but each time I failed one, I just looked at it as a learning experience and started again and again. Now, I’m quite the self-taught plant mom!
