Mental health can be a hard subject to talk about for some. At some point in every ones life, we suffer from some kind of mental health issues, and it’s ok.

I, like many people out there, fight with my mental health everyday. I have good days and bad days, but nonetheless it’s always the little devil on my shoulder.

Houseplants are amazing copping mechanisms when it comes to mental health issues and I’ll tell you why.

 

Houseplants Give You A Sense Of Purpose

Caring for a houseplant makes you feel like you’re doing a good thing.

It’s nice feeling to care for something. Some may not be able to have pets or children, so it can make you feel like your doing something good, and to also give your day-to-day some meaning.

That houseplant would die without your care. Having something that will rely on you can hold you accountable and make you feel valued.

 

You’ll Feel A Great Sense Of Accomplishment

I’ve often caught myself staring at my houseplants, it just makes me so proud to see what I’ve built.

One of the best feelings as a houseplant owner is to watch them grow. Seeing a new leaf sprouting or a flower blooming gives you such a big burst of serotonin.

Houseplants don’t often let you fail. Some houseplants will tell you exactly what is wrong with them, and with some research you can help them get back into shape.

Reviving a houseplant is one of the biggest senses of accomplishment and such a huge win, you should receive a metal for it.

Just remember, if you cant bring that houseplant back from the brink of death, it happens. The best of us have lost a plant here and there.

Take a deep breath, head back to the plant nursery, and try again.

Planting, mending and examining your houseplants will let you forget the world for a little while.

It will also give you a chance to break away from technology. We are living in such a tech-filled world that we often forget to essentially, “stop and smell the flowers”.

Putting your phone or laptop down and checking in on your plants gets you out of your head, and lets you step into something organic, and natural.

Plants have been found that they respond well to music. You can even simply put on your favorite playlist or artist and listen together. They won’t judge you on your taste in music either.
